BlackBerry PlayBook First ever Tablet PC by RIM

After Apple launched Its Tablet PC iPad, there were rumors going on for blackberry Tablet PC also. RIM now confirmed it by introducing the BlackBerry PlayBook, a powerful 7-inch device.

The PlayBook is mainly targets the business customers. The device is 9.7 millimetres thick and features a seven-inch touch screen with a 1024 by 600 widescreen resolution. It offers a dual-core 1GHz processor, full HTML 5 browser, Flash 10.1 with video acceleration, 1 GB of RAM ( which is important for running applications in the background, and opening multiple tabs in the web browser) 1080p playback with HDMI output and two HD cameras, all built atop the QNX operating system. For operating system, CEO of QNX, said the operating system is advanced and modern, created with multiprocessing and security in mind.

The Playbook will support a Java virtual machine to apparently support many of the existing BlackBerry apps also. Developers will also be able to create apps using WebWorks, RIM’s new platform for developing web apps and packaging them for BlackBerry App World.

Users of Playbook can connect with BlackBerry handset via Bluetooth. It also runs HTML5 applications and Flash which was missing in iPad. With a front and rear camera you can do video chat also. It supports a handful of video formats in 1080p like h.264, WMV, DivX and MPEG, and it’ll output video through a mini HDMI port. Also, it has a standard micro USB port. It supports OpenGL for 3D gaming.  For consumers RIM’s PlayBook tablet should arrive in the U.S. in early 2011
