Buying Tips on Digital Cameras

Digital CameraThere are so many brands and different cameras available in the market. So it is confusing to choose one of the best among all which is perfect for user. The main key to finding the best digital camera is finding what to look for and then understanding what to pay for it! What you want in camera? Mega pixels? Compact Flash? USB?  Go step-by-step while choosing camera.

There are different types of Digital cameras available .Digital cameras come in many sizes, shapes, and price ranges. The best idea is to weigh the various options available in the market… First decide how much you can pay for a digital camera. Decide the size, and features that you may actually want and you will use.   There are 4 types of Digital Camera Available 1)       Compact 2)       Ultra Compacts 3)       Enthusiast 4)       Super Zooms 5)       D-SLR

Compact – Compact cameras are most popular cameras. IT is especially for the average users. Cameras in this group take reasonable quality pictures and have a good set of features. These are not so expensive cameras. These cameras don’t have many pre features or perform.

Ultra compacts – These are very compact cameras. It can be easily fit into tiny bags or pockets but for the cameras of these category you have to scarify little performance for style and size

Enthusiast - These full-sized models offer more precise controls, better lenses, and more features. They produce better images, suitable for larger prints. They include zoom lenses, faster performance, exposure bracketing, high resolution, and manual controls for shutter speed, f-stop, and white balance. But these type of cameras are little expensive.

Super zooms - These cameras are the same as “enthusiast” cameras. The best thing differs from Enthusiast cameras is at least 10X optical zoom lenses. Some of these cameras can correct for camera shake by using image stabilization software. This is a great feature for long zooms.

D-SLR – These are the high end of digital cameras, with true reflex through-the-lens viewfinders, interchangeable lenses, good control over exposure and color, and lots of accessories. These are the professional cameras. The many professional features and functions these cameras possess almost match those of conventional 35-mm film cameras. They also produce the best images of any digital camera type. It will also give you best print quality.

These are basic types. Some features are also very important while buying cameras.

Lets see some features in detail.

  • MegapixelsMega pixels are a measure of quantity (the amount of data captured), not quality. A digital camera’s image quality is not based solely on mega pixels, but on an entire system. More important than the number of pixels is the actual pixel size. The bigger the pixel size the better they can record detail in the shadows and highlights. Larger sensors generally produce greater dynamic range, higher sensitivity, and better signal-to-noise ratio, mostly because they have room for bigger, more light-sensitive pixels. SO its not like that 6 megapixel will give you better picture than 5 mega pixels. Before the beginners cameras were only 2 megapixels. Now entry level is currently 7 mp and these will give you beautiful prints up to A3 size.
  • ZoomDigital cameras usually have optical zoom and/or digital zoom. Optical zoom is “true” zoom, like that found on a 35mm camera. The zoom lens enables you to view and photograph a subject more closely. On a digital camera, optical zooms allow you to do this without losing any pixels, or quality.
  • LCD screens & viewfinder – Digital cameras come equipped with a LCD screen, often with a viewfinder or both. As the LCD’s are increasing in size to 2.5 inches and beyond, the viewfinder is disappearing from recent model compact cameras.  The LCD provides user a larger viewing area when composing shots, and it allows you to see your images after you’ve shot them. The LCD uses a lot of battery power.  Viewfinders don’t use up batteries and also not affected by the glare of the sun
  • Image quality- Image quality is a more useful measure than the number of mega pixels. Most digital cameras will produce good images, with color, sharpness, and dynamic range that will satisfy most people.    Memory card, Shutter speed, Pixel, Batteries these are also the important features which you have to see before buying cameras.

From my point of view if you want to buy perfect digital camera in your budget first start collecting digital camera information and advice from everywhere. Read tons of digital camera reviews on the Internet.
